There are many types of chiropractic techniques. People respond to the wide variety of techniques in different ways. Dr. Connelly uses many techniques to suit the needs of the people who seek his care. Some of the techniques are the most traditional methods in chiropractic. Light force techniques where no "popping noises" come from the spine are also used as indicated. Below are some of the techniques that Dr. Connelly practices in his office.
Cox
This chiropractic technique uses mechanical and hands-on manipulation/ adjustments using a specialized table, where the spine is tractioned & flexed forward. It is used to treat cervical and lumbar disc herniations and non-disc spinal disorders increasing spinal mobility.
Diversified
Probably the most widely used, and most commonly known chiropractic technique. This technique utilizes high velocity, low amplitude thrusts resulting in cavitations. (noise associated with movement of the joint). Used to treat a number of joints in the body.
Thompson
A variation of the diversified technique, utilizing a specialized table with segments called drop pieces. The drop pieces are cocked by a fraction of an inch, dropping as the thrust is delivered. This assists the thrust while minimizing the force used to manipulate/adjust. Cavitations may or may not occur.
Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT)
Triangular blocks are placed, usually under the pelvis, creating a low force, slow pressure method of treating problems identified in the low back. SOT may be used to treat joint problems identified elsewhere in the body. This technique may be used exclusively or as an adjunct method of treatment.
Trigger Point Therapy
This is a technique focuses on the presumption that abnormal joint function may be caused by muscular problems. Pressure is briefly applied to the muscle at trigger points, allowing the muscle to achieve its normal length and return normal mobility to the bones attached to the muscle.
Activator Methods This technique uses a hand held gun type instrument that delivers a sharp percussive thrust upon triggering. The instrument controls the speed and force of the thrust allowing for a highly specific adjustment.
